About Us

Bemani Bastards was a crazy idea. It basically goes like this: One day GurtyGurt was at Replay, having a typically insane conversation with Kupster, when suddenly he proclaimed he was a Bemani Bastard (as well as 4 pink elephants). This would have been the end of it, but for some reason he added "Become a Bemani Bastard today!" to the end of the Ned Kelly Buckethead link, which was released that same night for the first time. This means it was roughly the 29th of September, 2001 when it was first conceived. The idea soon came back into the limelight with the first Bemani Adventure. High on insanity, both GurtyGurt and Kupster discussed making it official. And thus GurtyGurt's Wierd Page of Stuff got the arse and the Bemani Bastards took its place on 17 October, 2001! The page and team was promptly renamed 'Bemani Order of Madness' as to not offend people... although 'Bemani Bastards' is still used to describe team members and stuff.

The site was launched officially along with v0.573 of the DDR FAQ and v0.1 of both the Guitar Freaks and Drummania FAQs, and the news was finally posted to all major message boards.

STUPID QUESTIONS FREQUENTLY ASKED:

Q. Are you Ranking Task Force (RTF)?
A. No!

Q. Have you quit RTF?
A. No!

Q. If I join BOM, am I a member of RTF?
A. Technically no. BOM has no real ties with RTF at this stage. You can consider yourself a friend of RTF, though.

Q. What is foolstyle?
A. Foolstyle is a unique form of freestyle put together by BOM. It involves stupid poses, parodies of freestyle moves and general silliness with the intent of amusing a crowd and making the dancer feel happy (and not humiliated!).

Q. Do I need to learn foolstyle to join BOM?
A. No. It is optional.

Q. Can I learn foolstyle if I'm not a member of BOM?
A. Of course! That's why we have the guide on the website!

Q. Does membership cost money?
A. No. If you want a T-Shirt, though, it probably will as they don't grow on trees. Well maybe cotton grows on plants but that doesn't count. More details will be put up when it's time.

Q. Are BOM tournaments and competitions private?
A. Not unless we say so!

Q. Do I win prizes for entering a BOM tournament or competition?
A. If we say so, once again!

Q. Does BOM have RTF's permission for Bemani comps?
A. If they're large, we'll have gotten permission. If they're small, the machines won't be on free play, so it's hardly officially a competition is it? In which case, the answer is no, but I'm one of the major RTF Leaders in this area so bite me (gently. And please not on the buttocks)!

Q. What do you mean by that last question?
A. H.Edward of Ranking Task Force holds the patent or whatever it is to Bemani comps in Australia. If you want to hold a competition in a venue, you should ask for his permission first. Nobody else can grant it. If you want to hold a small competition between friends, you aren't exactly an arcade who has had posters up on the wall advertising something they don't have the rights to. Also let it be known that rights for this were only sought as self defence as someone tried to stop one of RTF's competitions (but obviously couldn't once the patent or copyright or whatever was gotten). Just about anyone can get permission!

Q. Do your competitions cost money?
A. Depends. Probably. But you pay to play anyway, and we don't make a profit, so don't worry about it!

Q. How do I join BOM?
A. Go to the message board and post your email address and tell us something if we don't know you, or email me at the link on the front page and do the same. BOM membership requires that you do a BOM quiz, so we suggest you check this site thoroughly first! It's whacky! You should be whaching out! Oh, and the test doesn't really affect whether you get in or not. Unless you completely mess up and we don't know you, it shouldn't affect your outcome.

Q. If I join BOM, do I have to quit any other team I'm in?
A. No. Unless that team tells you to. I encourage people to be diverse. BOM _was_ going to be more of a cult, but it's looking more like a team now, isn't it?

Q. What makes BOM different to RTF?
A. BOM aims to be whacky. BOM teaches foolstyle to all. RTF is serious. RTF runs large international DDR tournaments. BOM does not operate through RTF. More importantly, didn't you wish there were more Bemani teams anyway?

Q. Why is it called BOM?
A. We took our time to come up with an acronym, and this was the best we came up with. It was because we wanted a 3 letter acronym which itself was a reference to a Bemani game. (BOM is from Break Out in Guitar Freaks/Drummania - see the Stupidity Index).

Q. Is the message board public?
A. Yes! Anyone can post to it! Anything you can see is public!

Q. Do I have to be as crazy as you to join BOM?
A. No. Just don't stare at us blankly as we laugh at Drummania and Guitar Freaks' animations and then whine. You don't have to be loony to be in BOM, you just need a sense of humour. If you don't get the humour, that's fine. But I -do- suggest you show us your idea of funny when it comes to Bemani too! Share your humour! That is why BOM exists!

Q. When will T-Shirts be ready?
A. Probably in Mid-Late December.

Q. What makes BOM better than other teams?
A. Nothing. We don't claim to be better. We just claim to be original, that's all!

Q. Why don't you have a news page?
A. Because both I and Kupster work on Dancegames Australia. Go there if you want news! Who do you think reports it anyway?

Q. How good do I have to be to join BOM?
A. Simply prove that you're not just casually interested in DDR or another Bemani game. The best way to do this is to talk to us. A lot of people play it for a few months, get to Maniac level, then quit. I've been playing for over 2 years and well beyond the Maniac level, Kupster hasn't played that long but he's gotten just as far, and Seraph's played as long as I and gotten up to Maniac but not as far as I. This is DDR I'm talking about, of course. Skill doesn't matter. Skill improves. Being genuinely interested in the games improves your skill more than practice.
